It is a real clock the rest of the time. Hands, hours, the actual time of day — so the thing on the wall earns its spot even when nobody is punching. Tap it to clock in or out, and it goes back to being a clock a few seconds later.
The iPad is the proof of presence. It never leaves the shop, so being able to touch it is being at work. No location permission, no GPS, nothing to argue about.
This screen is all an employee can reach. Punching shows their own name and their own hours for the day, for a moment, and nothing else. No roster, no pay rates, nobody else's hours, no way to change a punch.
This device stays signed in until you sign out.
The iPad signs in once. Use the shop account there, not your own. Employees never see this screen — after the first sign-in it goes straight to the clock every time.
Manager PIN
Locked
It relocks after 90 seconds of nothing. The realistic failure is not somebody guessing the PIN, it is you opening the timesheet, getting called to the dock, and leaving it open on a screen by the door.
Today
Who is on the clock right now. This is live — a punch on the iPad shows up here within seconds.

Timesheet
One person at a time. Pick a name and you see their fortnight and nothing else.
An open punch counts as nothing until you fix it — somebody clocked in and never clocked out, so there are no hours to pay. The day shows 0.00 in red rather than a guess, which means a forgotten punch costs the person their day until you put the real time on it. The Lunch column is meal time taken off hours worked.

Payroll
The whole crew at once. This is the page you key from, and where you square the period up before you run it.
Onboarding
Every new hire, what is scanned, what is late. Sign the paper, scan it here, the row goes green.
Start someone
Paper original, scan here. The signed paper stays the record of note, so the scan is a convenience copy and the rules about audit trails and inspector access stay with the folder in your cabinet.
The I-9 row is the only one with a clock you do not control. Section 1 by day one, Section 2 within three business days of it. Move the start date and watch that deadline move with it.
Crew
Who can punch, and their PIN. Turning somebody off stops them clocking in without touching a single past punch.
Add someone
Somewhere to practise. Start a name with TEST — say
TEST Practice — and that person becomes a sandbox. They punch at the iPad and
show on the Timesheet like anybody else, but they never reach payroll, the totals, the
red flags or the vacation balances, so there is nothing to tidy up afterwards.

Punches and Employed are two different things.Punches = No takes somebody off the iPad clock screen and stops them being chased for a missing punch — that is you and the VP. It does not touch their pay: they still appear in the payroll totals. Employed = No is for somebody who has left; it takes them off the payroll page once they have no hours left in the period. Turning Employed off by mistake is how a person disappears from payroll, so only use it when they have actually gone.
Salaried people still count. Set Paid how to Salaried and give the hours a pay period — 80 for a normal fortnight. They never accrue overtime and appear in the totals at that standing figure.
Edit in place. Change a name, fix a role, reset a forgotten PIN, renumber the Order column, or set the days somebody normally works, then press Save on that row. Days uses M T W R F, where R is Thursday — a Monday/Wednesday/Friday person is MWF, and only those days get flagged when nothing is recorded. Order runs low to high and sets who appears where on the clock screen — leave gaps of 10 so you can slot somebody in later. Turning Can punch to No takes somebody off the clock screen without touching a single past punch — that is what you use for salaried people and for anyone who leaves.

How it works
Where the data lives, and why a punch can never be edited.
Nothing lives on the iPad
Punches, crew and onboarding are stored on the server. The iPad is a window onto them, the same as your Mac. Punch at 5:47 on the iPad and the timesheet on your Mac has it seconds later. If the iPad is dropped, wiped or replaced, no punch is lost.
Punches are never edited
A punch is a fact: at this instant this person entered their PIN on this device. Nothing overwrites one. A missed clock-out gets a correction recorded beside the original, with who made it and when — the original stays. That is the stronger half of “they cannot alter their time.” The PIN keeps the wrong person off the screen; the append-only design means even past the PIN, nobody rewrites history.

Where it lives
A Postgres database owned by Smart Partners LLC, hosted at Supabase. Every table is locked to signed-in accounts — without a login the database returns nothing at all. You can export any of it to a spreadsheet at any time, and no punch can be deleted by anyone, including you.
Still open
What payroll system? If it imports a file, you stop typing entirely.
Rounding. To the minute, or nearest quarter hour? Whatever payroll does today, this has to match exactly.
Breaks. Punch out for lunch, or deducted automatically?
Who may correct — only you today, since only you have the manager PIN. If supervisors should be able to fix a missed punch, they need their own PIN so the record names the right person.
Should the employee see their own corrections? A weekly summary they acknowledge is the strongest version of this record, and it is what turns a correction from something done to somebody into something agreed.
